LOUDOUN COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS (LCPS) SAT’s Up 5 Points
Loudoun County Public Schools students taking the Standard Assessment Test (SAT) in 2004 recorded
an average score of 1059, the highest in the school system’s history. The average score in 2003
was 1054, which also marked an all-time high for LCPS.
- The average SAT score in the nation was 1026 and the average score in Virginia 1024.
- On the verbal portion of the test, LCPS students scored an average of 533, well above the national average of 508 and state average of 515.
- In 2003, the LCPS average on this section of the test was 529.
- LCPS students scored an average of 526 on the math section of the SAT, compared to 518 nationwide and 509 statewide. Last year, the average LCPS score was 525.
- State and national averages both dropped a point in math and went up a point on the verbal section.
The LCPS participation rate for taking the SAT was 72.5 percent with 1,555 students taking the test in 2004 (only nine more than 2003). Anecdotal information from LCPS’ guidance staff suggests that some students did not take the SAT since they planned to attend a community college, where SAT scores are not required for admission. It also appears more students opted to take the ACT, which is being accepted by more colleges in lieu of the SAT. Source:Loudoun County Public Schools.
