HOME STYLES IN LOUDOUN COUNTY

Enjoy the many home styles available in Loudoun County real estate. Since many towns and villages in Loudoun County date back to the 1700s, there are some priceless historic homes and they often do go for sale.

The Loudoun County real estate market offers homes on 1/4 acre average lots in towns and in Leesburg. But, west of Leesburg and for some distance south of Leesburg, the area is considered rural and the county regulations permit only 1 home per 10 acres or 2 homes per 10 acres unless the property has been subdivided into smaller lots. Most towns, Lovettsville, Purcellville and others have small new communities that have been constructed in the town boundaries on lots of 6,000-12,000 square feet.

THE COLONIAL HOME

The ever popular Colonial is the home of choice for most new home buyers and builders. It offers more square feet for the foot print than any other style. The Colonial home is the proper description for any two level home. The Colonial may have a basement. Most in the Maryland/Northern Virginia market do have basements.

The Rambler or Ranch style is the classic one level home that has been constructed in Virginia from the first homes. Easy to build, this home style was popular until the early 1980s when land costs began to rise in towns. Still popular for custom built homes on larger than average or rural lots. The resale market for Ranch or Rambler homes is brisk with home buyers wanting homes without steps.

 

 
THE SPLIT FOYER HOME

The split foyer is a very popular style with builders. Characterized by the foyer entrance with steps up to the mail level and steps down to the lower level, the Split Foyer can be constructed completely on a slab with little to no excavation costs. The Split Foyer is a two level home with the upper level always finished. The lower level may be finished.

THE SPLIT LEVEL HOME

The Split Level home was popular and built mostly during the 1960-1970s. Sterling is a town with a number of Split Level homes. The split level homes come in 3-5 levels with two full levels above ground. They may have an integrated garage. The levels below ground may be finished for additional living space.

 

 
THE CAPE CODE HOME

The Cape Cod, identified by the front sloping roof, has been around for over 100 years. The style came to Loudoun County and other areas in Virginia from New England and has remained a popular home style. Many families building large custom homes will select the Cape Cod style because of the warm, inviting ambiance it offers. The Cape Cod is a two story home and may have a basement.

THE TOWN HOME OR TOWN HOUSE STYLE HOMES

The town home is a wonderful starter homes for buyers who are not ready to invest in a detached single family or someone who doesn't want much lawn care. Two or three level town homes and apartment style condominium homes are available in most urban areas and they are popular in Virginia especially with the high cost of land in the 21st century. Town homes are often luxury homes with upgraded interiors. In Loudoun County, town homes can be found throughout the towns from Leesburg north.
